TOP TEN OF 2009:
TOP TEN OF 2009:
This years list is a like last years as far as ‘order’ - it isn’t exact. If I were to write these lists some other day, they would differ based upon my mood. So keep that in mind before bitching or whatever. (I understand and respect everyone’s personal opinions, but I do not need to be yelled at.)Sadly, I feel as though I missed out on a lot of music from this year. School took over my life and I didn’t have much time to pay attention. For the past few days I have been looking up album releases and what not-to make sure I don’t make mistakes on dates-and I ended up discovering that quite a few artists released albums and I had no idea. But despite that, I’m quite happy with my lists.
Once again, these lists are my personal opinion. I’d love to hear your opinions, and would love to see your lists, so feel free to share.
Top ten songs of 2009:
- Always the most difficult category, definitely not in any particular order.
10. “Children of Divorce” - Jonny Craig
9. “Black Keys” - The Jonas Brothers
8. “Falling Over Me” - Demi Lovato
7. “God Wears Gucci” - blessthefall
6. “Vices” (Ft. Liam Cormier) - Silverstein
5. “Pleads and Postcards” - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
4. “Seven Thousand Miles For What” - Of Mice & Men
3. “Big Apple Big Heart” - Craig Owens
2. “Clush” - Isles & Glaciers
1. “The Road to Hell is Paved With Good Intentions” - In Fear & Faith
Top ten albums of 2009:
10. Paramore - Brand New Eyes
By no means do I dislike Paramore - I truly enjoy them. However, I did not expect to enjoy this album as much as I do. I loved their previous albums, but for whatever reason, my expectations weren’t very high. I’m really glad that they proved me wrong with this one though. Hayley definitely has a distinct voice and collectively, the band did an excellent job with this release.
9. Mayday Parade - Anywhere But Here
This band has always been one that I end up listening to on repeat for days at a time. A Lesson in Romantics is one of my very favorite albums. Naturally, I had pretty high expectations for this album. I have to say, they definitely didn’t disappoint me. I beyond happy with this album.
8. In Fear & Faith - Your World On Fire
First of all, although I clearly adore this album, I could do without the intro. There’s something so sickeningly creepy about the child singing at the end of it that it makes my skin crawl. Most of the time, this album is in my alarm clock, so I wake up to it the intro and am like, afljasdfj, no. But then the album really begins and I get amped. You know, depending on the time… Really though, this album is great and it truly has dominated a good chunk of my time.
7. Demi Lovato - Here We Go Again
I was a big fan of Demi’s first album, Don’t Forget, but this album was a big step up. She definitely managed to switch up her sound quite a bit this time around. I feel like she gets overlooked a lot by people, solely because she is associated with Disney. Which in all honesty, I don’t think is very fair. The bottom line is that this girl has genuine talent, no matter where she got her start from.
6. Jonny Craig - A Dream Is A Question You Don’t Know How To Answer
Despite the fact that I think Jonny’s a bit of a dick, there is absolutely no denying that he has some raw talent. This album dominated my iTunes for the longest time. Especially late at night when, instead of doing my school work, I played solitaire for hours. Also, I’m pretty certain “Children of Divorce” was one of my must used ‘lullaby’ songs. Overall, I was really impressed with this album.
5. Selena Gomez & The Scene - Kiss & Tell
I know many of you just went, “What the fuck?” but I truly do love this album. As someone who personally knows the impact that music can have upon one’s life, I do take music seriously in that sense. I know it’s powers and I appreciate music very much. I just personally feel as though some people take it too seriously and they forget that music is allowed to be fun. Fun is exactly what I feel this album is, and as Selena has said numerous times, that was her intention.
4. Silverstein - A Shipwreck in the Sand
This band will always have a piece of my heart. Silverstein has been one of my top four favorite bands for years now. (Thank you Hawthorne Heights, for leading me to them all those years ago!) I can truthfully say that they never cease to amaze me. I’m definitely never disappointed by them and this album is no exception. I am extremely proud of of how much they continue to deliver with their music. Happy ten years, guys! Can ya’ give me ten more?! ;)
3. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Lonely Road
You had to have known they’d pop up on here. Honestly, I can’t even believe this album came out this past January, it feels as though it’s been so much longer. As you all may know, these guys have a very special place in my heart and they will forever hold that place. Now, there were a few songs on this album that at first, I wasn’t too fond of. But I grew to love each of those songs and the album as a whole. I respect the guys in this band so very much and they continue to amaze me, always. I can’t wait for the next one!
2. blessthefall - Witness
After Craig Mabbit and the rest of the band parted ways, I can honestly say, I thought they were fucked. I said that in 2007’s top ten lists. Right here, right now, I want to retract that statement - I was beyond wrong. Although Craig is indeed very talented, I think Beau has bought something really wonderful to this band. I hear some similarities between both Beau and Craig’s voices, but I think Beau has a much better and more powerful presence. He’s also one of the most pleasant guys I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Witness is truly an incredible step up for blessthefall and I only see them going up from here.
1. Craig Owens - With Love
Yes, before anyone jumps down my throat, I am fully aware that With Love is an EP. But this EP has done much more for me than many albums have been able to. This has been such a tough year for me, especially these last couple of months. Seeing Craig in September and then the next day finding out that he was kicked out of Chiodos was just, mindblowing and heart shattering. But this, these couple of songs have reassured me that things will be okay and that this possibly could have been for the best. This little EP kept my faith that Craig would keep his as well - that he wouldn’t quit doing what he is so clearly meant to be doing. I, along with many others, are not ready for him to stop anytime soon.
